Joe Bonamassa came by the studio today to play on a track for the new Mindi Abair album. I’ve known and had the pleasure of working with Joe and Kevin for over 10 years! The first album I engineered with Joe was Sloe Gin back in 2007. After assisting Kevin on a single mix, the first project we worked on together was Metallica “The Videos.”
Check out this Christmas song I worked on from Joe Bonamassa with the Caveman producing. You can download this for free and every time it gets downloaded Joe will donate to music programs in public schools. How cool is that? Happy Holidays!
The new Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa: Live In Amsterdam comes out in a few days. This is a very cool concert film/ album and if you pick up the DVD or Blu-Ray there is some awesome behind the scenes footage. It’s always an honor to work on these kinds of projects and am very excited to get my copy. Check out the Discography page and watch the official EPK.
Take a look at this video from the upcoming Joe Bonamassa DVD set Tour de Force. This is from the Borderline gig with Anton Fig on Drums and Michael Rhodes on Bass.
Rolling Stone has premiered the new Beth Hart video “Better Man’ from the album Bang Bang Boom Boom. The video includes in studio footage shot by Marcus Sweeney- Bird (CG Film) at Revolver Recording. I had a great time engineering this project with Kevin Shirley producing. Everyone was set up in the live room recording together and Beth was at the Piano in a booth having eye contact with the band. This is definitely my favorite way to record.
Band included: Anton Fig – Drums, Michael Rhodes – Bass, Randy Flowers – Guitar, Blondie Chaplin – Guitar
Coming soon is the new box set from Joe Bonamassa “Tour De Force.” Four nights and four shows of material. I worked along side Kevin “Caveman” Shirley on this amazing project and am very proud to have been a part of such a historic undertaking. It was a lot of working assembling and editing the shows and I also got to sit in on some of the video editing which was a great experience. Check out jbonamassa.com to order your copy.

Looking into building some BBC style QRD diffusers for my room. If you read Tape Op, and you should, they did a really helpful article on these, called DIY Diffusors (which is what got me going on this). If you’ve made them before and have any tips, feel free to email me.
This is a picture of BlackBird Studios in Nashville with similar style diffusors (Massenburg doesn’t do anything half-assed!):
